The California Nebula (NGC 1499) is a 2.5° long emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. NGC 1499 is probably illuminated by Xi Persei, a hot blue-white main sequence star of spectral type O7e. Xi Persei can be found near the centre in the above image.
